WHAT IS EDUCATION AND SKILLS ONLINE?

EDUCATION AND SKILLS ONLINE ASSESSMENT – THE ON-LINE VERSION OF THE SURVEY OF ADULT SKILLS (PIAAC)

Education and Skills Online (ESO) is the on-line version of OECD’s Survey of Adult Skills (in Canada, called the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, or PIAAC) and is the result of a joint initiative of OECD and the European Union.

ESO is an assessment tool designed to provide individual-level results that are linked to PIAAC measures of literacy, numeracy, and problem solving in technology-rich environments. All results are comparable to the measures used in PIAAC and can be benchmarked against the national and international results available for participating countries. In addition, the assessment contains non-cognitive measures of skills use, career interests, health and well-being, and—in the near future—behavioural competencies too.

The purpose of this project is to develop a Canadian adaptation of PIAAC On-line in both English and French in order to have a culturally relevant and adapted tool for Canadians.

Who takes the test?

ESO was developed as an assessment relevant to youth and adults of all ages. Institutions, organizations, or local governments can use the on-line tool to assess the skills of a particular population with the goal of providing training or for research purposes.
